I'm curious, has anyone tried going the route of contacting Samsung about purchasing a computer without any software pre-installed instead of asking for a refund after the fact?

I asked Samsung in Germany for a Windows refund for a NC130 and I was told that I could only return the entire device. See https://wiki.fsfe.org/WindowsTaxRefund/Germany#Fall_.5BH.5D_Matthias-Christian_Ott (German) for details.

Does anyone know if the track pad issues have been/will ever be resolved? That's really the only thing keeping me from getting rid of xp at this point.

To be noted,

Sabayon linux works perfectly on the nc10. Everything (and I mean everything, speakers/headset included) works fine right out-of-the-box...

I'm disturbed by your conclusionsabout the "Windows refund," carneades. The Open Source community is right that they are entitled to a refund. The lesson you should be taking away is that Samsung (as all major PC distributos) are colluding w M$ to prevent people from getting it. Both M$ and Samsung representatives lied to you, in a way that the corps can deny (mistakes or opinions of reps only) Don't you understand this?

What a mess, why not just have two models with one having the so called 'free' Microsoft OS, and the other having the manufacturers 'own' Unix based OS, or no OS at all. That way everyone would have a choice. > Keeping the NC10 XP on a DVD just in case and demolishing the HDD with Debian, MUAHAHAHAA!
